In fact, turtles are abundant at Pinnacle Reef due to its proximity to Green Island and its beds of sea grass. We often see Green and Hawksbill Turtles from the deck of Ocean Free and our guests enjoy swimming with them in the crystal-clear blue waters.
Other natural features of Pinnacle Reef include large beds of staghorn corals, interspersed with sandy beds and gutters which are scattered with colourful, giant clams and sometimes home to resting reef sharks. This underwater world, awaits your discovery.

Ocean Free’s guests can snorkel Pinnacle Reef, by stepping directly off the boat. We provide guided snorkel tours each day, but you also have the freedom to jump in and explore the reef whenever you want. All snorkelling equipment is provided and the day is your own.

Pinnacle Reef is home to a diverse array of fish, corals and other critters. We regularly see giant trevally, anemonefish, giant clams, starfish and shy reef sharks. Be mesmerised by the complexity of the reef.
Step straight off the boat, it’s that easy. We provide guests with buoyancy devices if required and there’s steps which are lowered into the water, providing easy egress to the boat.
Our marine interpreters will provide you with an informative introduction to the Great Barrier Reef. They’re available throughout the day, to answer any of your questions.

Yes you can! This is a highlight for many of our guests and we’re pleased to report that there’s several species of anemonefish to be found on Pinnacle Reef.
